CrowdAvoid is a travel app for iOS and Android that shows real-time crowd levels at popular attractions worldwide. Travelers can see live crowd data, receive push notifications when crowds drop, build full-day itineraries around the best visit windows, and earn Explorer Awards for responsible, off-peak tourism.
The app’s smart prediction engine factors in weather, cruise ship arrivals, local events, and historical patterns to forecast how crowds will move throughout the day — so travelers know the best time to visit before they leave their hotel.

Rolf Magener has visited 130 countries across all seven continents and walked more than 15 Caminos de Santiago. He built CrowdAvoid out of personal frustration — arriving at iconic destinations around the world only to find them overwhelmed with crowds.
Before building apps, Rolf was a fashion photographer in New York City, shooting campaigns for Tiffany & Co. and Revlon, with his images appearing in Vogue Italia. He later authored 9 books on marketing and mindset, then built iCleaner — a scratch-removing polish for iPods that grew from $9 on eBay into a product sold globally and through Apple Stores.
He taught himself HTML in 1994 and built CrowdAvoid himself using React, TypeScript, and Capacitor 7. He is based in New York City and operates under his company MOAI.
