About CrowdAvoid
What is CrowdAvoid?

CrowdAvoid is a free travel app for iPhone and Android that shows crowd levels at tourist attractions worldwide. Powered by Real-Time Density Processing and a Predictive Avoidance Engine, it helps you plan visits at the least busy times, avoid long queues, and get more out of every trip.

CrowdAvoid covers thousands of attractions across more than 120 countries in English, Spanish, French, and German.

Is CrowdAvoid free?

Yes — completely free to download and use. Full access to crowd predictions, trend indicators, push notifications, itinerary planning, PDF export, and an interactive map.

A premium Smart Traveler tier is coming soon. Users who sign up now will be grandfathered in and keep full access to everything they currently enjoy.

Which devices does CrowdAvoid support?

CrowdAvoid is available as a native app on iPhone (iOS) via the Apple App Store and on Android via Google Play. It is also accessible as a web app at app.crowdavoid.com.

What languages does CrowdAvoid support?

English, Spanish, French, and German. The app automatically displays in your device’s preferred language if supported, or defaults to English.

How the Technology Works
How does CrowdAvoid’s technology work?

CrowdAvoid runs two core proprietary systems:

Real-Time Density Processing
The algorithmic ability to process current maritime data (cruise ship schedules), aviation patterns, and localized foot-traffic data into a continuously updated crowd picture.
Predictive Avoidance Engine
The utility that tells travelers when and where a location will peak — powering every trend indicator, hour-by-hour view, and smart timing suggestion in the app.
Where does the crowd data come from?

CrowdAvoid’s crowd levels are powered by its Real-Time Density Processing engine, which ingests maritime traffic (cruise ship schedules), aviation data, and localized foot-traffic patterns alongside historical visitor data, seasonal tourism trends, and local event calendars.

The upcoming Smart Traveler tier adds live sensor-based foot traffic data for even greater accuracy.

What are the four crowd levels?

CrowdAvoid uses four crowd levels to help you plan your visit:

Low — Very few people, short or no lines. A great time to visit.
Moderate — Some crowds but a pleasant experience with manageable lines.
Busy — Noticeably crowded with longer lines and wait times.
Very Crowded — Heavy crowds. Consider visiting earlier or later in the day.
What does the trend indicator mean?

The trend indicator is driven by CrowdAvoid’s Predictive Avoidance Engine. It shows whether crowd levels are expected to rise or fall compared to the current moment. A downward arrow means crowds are easing — a great time to head over. An upward arrow means they’re building.

How do cruise ship schedules affect crowd levels?

Cruise ships can transform a quiet morning into an overwhelming one. CrowdAvoid’s Real-Time Density Processing ingests maritime arrival data so cruise ship days are reflected in crowd predictions — thousands of passengers typically disembark between 9am and 10am and head to the same key attractions.

If you’re staying overnight, early morning visits (before 9am) or evening visits are your best strategy on cruise days.

Using the App
How do I check crowd levels by hour, day, or month?

Tap any attraction to open its detail page. Under the crowd level bar, tap the orange View Crowd by Hour / Day / Month button. The Predictive Avoidance Engine powers these forecasts for any hour, day, or month of the year.

How do I plan an itinerary with CrowdAvoid?

On any attraction card, tap the itinerary icon. A calendar pop-up appears with preset times showing the lowest expected crowds — tap any to add it instantly, or choose your own custom time. Your full itinerary can be exported as a PDF to save, print, or share.

How do I get crowd alerts for my favourite attractions?

Tap the notification bell icon on any attraction card to subscribe to crowd alerts. You’ll receive push notifications for the next 12 hours whenever the crowd level changes. To stop alerts, double-tap the bell icon or manage notifications through your device settings.

How do I find attractions near me?

Use the search bar on the Explore page to search by name, or browse by category and filter by crowd level. Tap the Map button in the bottom navigation to jump to the map, center it on your location, and discover nearby attractions with color-coded crowd pins.

Can I export or share my itinerary?

Yes. Go to My Trips, open an itinerary, and tap the Share / Save button. Your itinerary exports as a PDF ready to save, print, or share with travel companions.

Crowd-Busting Tips
What time of day has the fewest crowds at tourist attractions?

The first hour after opening is consistently the quietest. Crowds peak between 11am and 3pm. The last 90 minutes before closing are often surprisingly calm. Avoid the midday window whenever possible.

Which days of the week are the least crowded?

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are reliably the quietest days at most tourist attractions worldwide. Weekends — especially Sunday afternoons — are almost always the busiest. Monday is moderate but many museums are closed.

Which months are the best and worst for avoiding crowds?

July and August are the peak months globally — school holidays, summer vacation, and cruise season all overlap. December spikes around Christmas and New Year. For the best balance of weather and manageable crowds:

  • April–May — warm with far fewer visitors than summer at most European destinations
  • September–October — summer crowds gone, weather still excellent, prices lower
  • November–early December — the quietest period at most destinations
  • January–February — minimum crowds almost everywhere

Use CrowdAvoid’s Month view — powered by the Predictive Avoidance Engine — to see the full year at a glance.

What should I do when an attraction shows Very Crowded?
  • Check the trend indicator — if crowds are already falling, waiting 30–60 minutes can make a big difference
  • Use the Hour view to find a calmer window later and add it to your itinerary
  • Flip your day — visit this attraction in the evening and do something quieter now
  • Set a crowd alert and get notified when levels drop
  • Explore the surrounding streets first — often crowd-free even when the main site is packed
How do cruise ship schedules affect crowds at port cities?

Thousands of cruise passengers disembark together, typically between 9am and 10am, and flood the same key attractions before returning in the late afternoon. CrowdAvoid’s Real-Time Density Processing ingests maritime data so you’ll see these spikes reflected in predictions on port days. Early morning (before 9am) or evening visits are the best strategy.
